This past February, my son married the love of his life. Set at the turn of season—still winter by date, but softened by light—the day unfolded in a beautiful outdoor courtyard on a sunset hillside. A rustic wooden timber arch stood at the center, flanked by long wooden benches that welcomed guests in and held everyone close.

And to our surprise, the weather was just right—a romantic sight to behold.

The couple chose an elegant palette of navy blue, brown, and cream—tones that felt grounded, refined, and perfectly suited to the season.

Mother of the Groom

When I was first told the colors, I realized I didn’t have anything in my closet that would fit the palette. And as mother of the groom, I wanted to feel both present and at ease—something that honored the moment without competing with it.

Taking into account the unpredictability of Texas weather that time of year, I searched for warm options and purchased a few looks, but either the silhouette was off or I felt like I’d be too hot. So I kept searching, and honestly didn’t find the dress I wore until four days before the wedding.

The silhouette was just right—structured yet soft, with a sense of ease I had been hoping for. I chose a navy blue formal-length mermaid dress, off-the-shoulder with long sleeves. The fabric, a blend of polyester with a touch of spandex, made it surprisingly comfortable.

The dress was by YMDUCH, paired with metallic gold cowboy boots by GOSERCE—both sourced from Amazon. In my Texas Belle Haute style, the boots added just enough personality to feel like myself.

Accessories included Imolove yellow gold round moissanite studs, also from Amazon, and a blue and white topaz tennis bracelet that belonged to my late mother.

The Groom

Months before the wedding, the groom already had almost everything he wanted to wear for the day. The biggest challenge was finding a tie to fit his style and complete the look. In a final-hours search the day before the wedding, I spotted one—and he approved. It was the perfect find.

The groom’s look balanced classic structure with relaxed detail.

  • AWear2 Kenneth Cole slate blue shirt
  • Charcoal, blue & tan paisley Nicole Miller New York tie
  • Warm Vanilla Night Indigo Adidas Samba OG sneakers

The Bride

The bride wore a timeless silk architectural gown from Terry Costa that felt both elegant and regal, with subtle vintage structure woven throughout its design. The strapless draped bodice featured a dainty covered-button back closure, paired with a full skirt of softly structured pleats, tailored drop sleeves, and a gorgeous train that moved with quiet grace.

To complement the look, she wore eye-catching teardrop earrings and a delightful tiered veil, with a hip-length blusher and a flowing back train that mirrored the length of her gown.

She completed the look with Warm Vanilla Night Indigo Adidas Samba OG sneakers—an unexpected, playful touch that echoed the groom’s style.

Wedding Blooms

I was given the honor of curating and creating the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere—one of the most meaningful details of the day for me.

The bride envisioned a large bouquet anchored in navy blue and ivory blooms. Because true navy blue flowers are rare in nature, we chose to work with high-quality silk florals—pieces that look and feel real, regardless of color.

I sourced everything from Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Amazon, carefully selecting textures and tones that would come together with depth and cohesion. I spent about a week working on the designs, and I was glad the bride and groom were pleased with the final creations.

At the turn of season, in the glowing edge of winter, everything felt quietly intentional.

They did it their way—and it was amazing.

An exquisite setting: intimate, romantic, modern, outdoor, and playful. Rich tones with an essence of royalty. Surrounded by family and friends. Delicious BBQ and dessert charcuterie. Dancing and cornhole into the night.

It was a day gathered in nature, in light, in bloom, in love, and in blue.

To the incredible couple, congratulations, Ollie & Camryn. Love you dearly.
