To be totally honest, I have never watched Game of Thrones. I was introduced to the epic show fandom a while back when visiting two of my dear friends. One is a remarkable man over 100 and the other is a sweet, lively lady over 70. They couldn’t stop talking about their fascination with the show and the thrill of watching its final season. Although fantasy shows aren’t usually my thing, their enthusiasm intrigued me and struck a chord with me.

As a newcomer to the Game of Thrones world, I had no idea what to expect from the exhibition. But when I heard costumes were coming, I couldn’t miss it! I had the opportunity to attend the Grand Opening, and from first glance, I had a hard time pulling away!

Witnessing the vision, imagination, and craftsmanship up close was an awe-inspiring experience. What’s most fascinating to me is how Costume Designer Michele Clapton ingeniously crafted such stylish designs to embody the culture and essence of this fantastical world. It was enlightening to read about the intense research she did on centuries of world cultures, climates, environmental elements, religion, and ancient practices of fabric treatment and adornment. With that insight and her own creativity she made mood boards to design looks for each house and its characters. The inclusion of backstory information, behind-the-scenes footage, and props were cool too! Now, I can totally understand why millions have fallen in love with the show. I look forward to watching it to see the costumes in action.

Game of Thrones is a gripping world of its own, a show fashioned for love. The exhibition is spectacular! All the things I adore: leather, metals, textures, embroidery, beads, fur, and boots. Every piece has a spirit and story to tell. The meticulous attention to detail captivated me and I took it all in! Every time I looked over the images I took, I was drawn in all the more and even started to hear melodies. This visual study is accompanied by original music inspired by the experience. Check out what I loved at Game of Thrones™️: The Exhibition!
